This policy explains how we handle information when you use owlextech.com (the “Site”) and the OWLEX handheld remote app for Android and iOS, package id com.owlextech.owlex (the “App”).
We wrote it to match what the current products actually do. If a later build starts collecting something new — for example crash reports — we will update this page and the store listings before that build ships.
1. Who we are
Shenzhen Hangan Technology Co., Ltd. operates the OWLEX brand, this website, and the App. Privacy requests go to info@owlextech.com. We do not currently appoint a separate data-protection officer.
The official contact for this policy is email. A registered office address is not published on this page. We will add it if a store or regulator requires it.
2. What we do not collect
We do not:
- create an account or ask for a password
- collect your name, phone number, precise location, contacts, or government ID
- read photos or videos already in the phone gallery
- use advertising identifiers, tracking pixels, or analytics SDKs in the App
- sell personal information, or share it for cross-context advertising
- use the App to track you across other companies’ apps or websites
The App never sends the live image, device files, or on-device preferences to Owlex servers.
3. Website
Email you choose to send us
If you subscribe to news in the footer, or join a community / early-access waitlist, you give us an email address. We use it only to send the updates you asked for. We do not add you to a list you did not request.
You can ask us to delete that address at any time by writing to info@owlextech.com. If a message includes an unsubscribe link, that link also works.
A support email you send us is kept long enough to answer you.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Site stores two first-party preference cookies when you pick a country or language:

These cookies are set with SameSite=Lax and Secure. They are not advertising cookies. Details are in the Cookie Policy.
Hosting and security
The Site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most sites, the network that delivers the pages may process technical data such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, and approximate time, for security, abuse prevention, and to serve the page. We do not use that data to build a marketing profile.
4. The OWLEX app
Preferences on the phone
The App stores on the device:
- the language you selected
- appearance (light, dark, or follow the phone)
- album cache size, and whether newest items are copied while the album is closed
- the hardware identifier of the last accessory you connected, used only to rebuild that unit’s hotspot name on this phone
- on store builds, a hidden review switch that lets testers simulate a connection without an accessory
- on internal demo builds only, a “simulated connection” switch and a developer log
Those values stay on the phone. Uninstalling the App removes them.
Local network and the optic
The App talks to an OWLEX accessory you already own over that accessory’s own wireless network. After you join the hotspot and tap Connect, the App sends control commands and receives a live image on that local network only. The traffic is not forwarded to Owlex.
That is why iOS asks for local network access and Android asks for ordinary network permissions. The accessory serves commands and files over HTTP without TLS. That exception is limited to the Dart socket stack talking to addresses on the accessory’s own network. Android WebView and other plugin HTTP are not allowed to use cleartext. When the App opens a public page (this policy, these terms, a support link, or Community), it uses HTTPS.
Photos and videos
The App can browse media that is already on the connected accessory. It writes to this phone’s gallery only when you tap Save to phone. It creates an album named OWLEX. It does not read the rest of your photo library.
Notifications
The App may show local notices on the phone (for example: a photo was taken, a file finished saving, or the connection dropped). Those notices are not push messages from our servers. We do not have your device token.
Motion
On some phones the App reads the orientation / gravity sensor so the live image can follow how you are holding the handset. That reading is used only on the device. It is not uploaded.
Community
The Community tab loads a public feed and article pages from owlextech.com over HTTPS. Those requests include the language the App is using. Cloudflare, which hosts the Site, may process the same technical data it already processes for website visits (IP address, requested URL, and similar). The App does not send the live image, accessory files, or on-device preferences in those requests.
Diagnostics
Internal demo builds can show a diagnostic log on the phone. Store builds compile that switch out. The log is not uploaded.
Open-source libraries
The App is built with Flutter and a small set of plugins used for gallery writes, local preferences, video playback, and platform sensors. Those libraries run on the phone. They are not used to send personal data to us.
5. How we use information

Legal bases we rely on where GDPR / UK GDPR applies:
- Contract — operating the App you installed
- Consent — optional email lists
- Legitimate interests — securing the Site, remembering choices you already made, delivering Community pages you opened
- Legal obligation — if a regulator or court requires a record
6. Sharing
We share information only with:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the Site
- an email processor, if and when a newsletter or waitlist is connected, solely to send the messages you requested
- authorities, if the law requires it
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Open-source licences used by the App are listed in Me → Open source licences. Those licences are not a transfer of your personal data.
7. How long we keep it
- Email lists — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete the address
- Support mail — as long as needed to finish the request, then a short archive if the law requires it
- Cookies — 12 months, or sooner if you clear them
- App preferences — until you change them or uninstall
- Local-network traffic — not stored by us
- Hosting logs — only for the short period needed to operate and secure the Site
8. International transfers
The Site is delivered through Cloudflare, which may process technical data in the United States or other countries. If you email us, your message is processed where our mailbox is hosted. Where GDPR requires a transfer tool, we rely on the processor’s published Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
The App’s control session stays on the accessory hotspot. That traffic does not cross our servers.
9. Children
The Site and the App are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child sent us an email, write to info@owlextech.com and we will delete it.
10. Your rights
Because the App does not hold identifiable personal data on a server, there is usually no cloud copy to delete. Uninstalling the App removes the on-device preferences.
If we hold an email address or a support thread, you may ask us to:
- access what we hold
- correct it
- delete it
- object to or restrict certain processing
- receive a copy (data portability), where that right applies
- withdraw consent for a mailing list, without affecting earlier lawful use
Write to info@owlextech.com. We will answer within the time the law in your country requires.
You may also complain to your local supervisory authority. In the EEA that is your national data-protection authority; in the UK it is the ICO.
11. California and similar US state laws
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
If you are a California resident and believe we hold personal information about you (typically an email you submitted), the rights in section 10 apply. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
12. Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the App’s store listing. The current public copy is always https://owlextech.com/privacy.
